In the spirit of Mandela Day, Decision Inc. and its staff donated handmade blankets, as well as a cash donation, to Oliver’s Village in Benoni.
Oliver’s Village is a unique provider of social services, focussing on the creation of a self-contained, self-sustaining community centre. This ambitious project is well on its way and to date it already runs a preschool for 250 children and an organic farm supplying the Zenzele community and Nomthandazo Children’s Care Centre with an assortment of vegetables from a permaculture vegetable garden. A clinic and computer centre are currently being constructed.
As part of the outreach, Decision Inc. employees worked in teams over three afternoons to make 130 ‘no sew’ fleece blankets that were handed out at Oliver’s Village on Friday. While it was hard work to produce so many blankets in such a short time, the team spirit was incredible.
“We joined the team of Oliver’s Village on Friday 17th to hand out the blankets, and also assist in serving meals to both the old and young members of the community. An event such as this is important as it provides all of us with a timely reminder about those less fortunate than ourselves. And, of course, when people work together, great things can happen,” says Nick Bell, CEO of Decision Inc.
Nick Bell also handed over a cheque for R10 000.
“It was a wonderful day spent at Oliver’s Village. There was such a sense of community and it was great seeing the children sing and dance. Their smiles and positive attitude despite their challenging circumstances are an example to us all,” concludes Bell.
